

Moving throughout Italy is made pretty easy by way of train, once you figure it out. Being familiar with the New York transit system has definitely helped during my travels and in having a sense of direction. My two girlfriends and I took a weekend trip in Venice. We were permanently stationed in Florence for the month, but decided to take advantage of the weekends to make our way around Italy. It was our first Trenitalia ride, but we all did well and made it to our destination.
Once you step off the train you are greeted with the Grand Canal. Gondolas, boats, and ferries were sailing people down the stream of green water. It was like nothing I have ever seen before and nothing like Florence. The three of us found the ferry that took us to the Rialto Market, which was near where we were staying, and took in the sights along the way. The maze of a map that makes up the streets, rivers, and bridges of Venice made sense…most of the time. We could easily meander our way to St Marks Square, but in the less touristy areas, a lot of the streets had several names and some of the bridges didn’t even exist on the map! That was just part of the Venetian experience…getting lost. And, in my opinion, it was a ton of fun! Continue reading →
